When basic needs are unmet (water, food, shelter, electricity, internet,etc.), is ambition a distraction from survival, or does it provide hope and purpose?

Is contentment a form of resignation in low-resource settings, or can it be a powerful form of resistance?

Is it possible to find contentment without ambition, or does ambition inevitably drive one’s sense of purpose and worth?
